Inviting on the telephone
(Suggested answers to the exercise)

      Bob:       Hello.
      John:

Hello. Could I speak to Bob, please?
      Bob:       Yes, speaking.
John:     Oh hi, Bob. It’s John here.
Bob:       Oh, John, hi. Long time no see. How’ve you been?
John:     Oh, pretty good. How about you?
Bob:       Oh, not bad. You know… working hard as always.
John:     Anyway, I was just wondering... Are you doing anything tomorrow night?
Bob:      Tomorrow night? No. I don’t think so. Did you have something in mind?
John:     Yeah. I was thinking of going to see the new Lord of the Rings movie.
Would you like to come along?
Bob:       Lord of the Rings? Erm… actually I’ve already seen it.
John:     Oh, really? Was it any good?
Bob:       Well, to be honest, I didn’t think much of it, myself. It was a bit too long.
John:     So you didn’t enjoy it?
Bob:       No, not much. Erm... listen, would you like to see something else? I heard
                   Spiderman's on at the ABC.

John:     Spiderman? That sounds OK. What time does it start?
Bob:       Hang on, I’ll just get the paper and check. Let’s see… there’s an early
                    performance at 6 o’clock, and there’s a later performance at 8:50.
John:     Hmm... the 8:50 performance would be better for me.
Bob:       Yeah, me too. 6 o’clock would be too much of a rush.
John:      Right, so what would be a good time to meet?
Bob:       Let's meet for a drink at, say, 8 o'clock and then go to the cinema.
John:     Yeah, sounds good. So, shall we meet in the King’s Head?
      Bob:       The King’s Head, right.
      John:      OK, see you tomorrow.
Bob:       Yeah. See you tomorrow. Bye.
      John:      Bye.
