I don't remember X, but I do remember Y.
(Stressing the auxiliary do)
- Suggested answers to the exercise

    1. I don't watch many TV drama programmes, but I do enjoy Changumu on Thursday nights.
    2. I don't remember much about my primary school days, but I do remember my first teacher. Her name was Mrs O'Sullivan.
    3. I hardly ever go jogging, but I do go to the gym quite often.
    4. I'm not very fond of Chinese food, but I do like Indian food.
    5. I don't normally like Sanma Akashiya (Japanese television comedian), but I did think he was good in Satokibibatake no Uta (Song of the Sugarcane Fields).

    Notes:
Stressed do can also be used for emphasis in statements like these:

    • I really do hope you can come to the party.
    • If you haven't seen it, I do recommend you to watch Changumu.

If you do use this form, please remember to say the DO with extra stress.

Oh and, by the way, if you haven't seen them, I really do recommend Changumu (NHK BS-2 Thursdays at 10:00 p.m.) and Satokibibatake no Uta. Here's a link to the Changumu website. And here's a link to a Satokibibatake no Uta website. If you're in Japan, you should be able to find  a Satokibibatake video or DVD at your local rental shop.
